Fred Smith is the engineering manager for multiple code-generation products: GPU Coder, HDL Coder, Simulink PLC Coder, and MATLAB Coder. He started at MathWorks in 2001 where he developed the first version of the MATLAB function block. Fred holds a Ph.D. in computer science from Cornell University. His thesis work in certified runtime code generation laid the theoretical and practical foundations for the technology that allows MATLAB Coder to generate C and C++ code from MATLAB.
